Community Education
Looking to learn about new ideas and techniques in healthcare or to take part in one of our many events or health promoting classes at the hospital? From speaking to the Rotary Club to reinforcing good hand washing habits to youngsters, GCMH staff place a priority on community health education. Dozens of educational events, support groups, and classes are set throughout the year in Grundy, Butler, Hardin, and Tama counties.
Check our calendar for a schedule of regular support groups and classes, or look through our list to find a topic that could be scheduled for your civic organization or service club meeting.
- Education topics available from our professional staff include:
- Handwashing and hygiene, presented as part of our fun "Germbusters" outreach
- Physical Therapy basics
- Telehealth, a unique program that improves patient access to healthcare
- Joint replacement - how to know whether you're a candidate
- Health careers for students
- Nutrition and disease management through healthy food choices
- Advanced Directive and Living Wills from our social services staff

Session 1: Thinking about Quitting
Session 2: On the Road to Freedom
Session 3: Wanting to Quit
Session 4: Quit Day-Overcoming Slips & Avoiding Relapse
Session 5: Winning Strategies (48hrs after Session 4/Quit Day)
Session 6: The New You
Session 7: Staying Off
Session 8: Celebration
For further questions or if you are interested in attending an upcoming clinic please contact: Brandy Tripp, RN, BSN, Trained & Certified Facilitator, Freedom from Smoking; at (319) 824-5097 Ext 4476.
You will receive help to create a personalized plan to overcome tobacco. Quitting provides immediate health benefits and reduces your risk for long-term smoking-related illness.
Each participant is encouraged to check with their employer and insurance company for any available assistance with enrollment costs, incentives or discounts offered.
